CANADA’S URBAN UNDERGROUND ]
slinkster
explores some up and coming Canadian labels that are giving the world a run
for their money on the urban street styles front
FDCO
has been an outfitter for the Toronto scene (and beyond) for quite some time
now. Their blend of rave and hip hop styles has produced staple designs that
has made Toronto notorious for it's urban fashion. Although known primarily
for their clothing, FDCO has also managed to release records featuring
Toronto's Tom Brown.
Emerging
from the Silicon Valley, Metry's designs are fused with technology and
functionality. Metry, currently Paper Doll's only non Canadian label, is a
prime representation of how fashion is being affected by our digital society.
Known
for both their clothing and magazine, Toronto's TPHS have recently included
male designs into their catalogue. Their College Street "Mothership"
clothing outlet have allowed TPHS to continually monitor current labels and
trends and to release designs that always further the existing patterns.
The
result of a Toronto based jungle, drum&bass, trip hop and hip hop
enthusiast, Jy have been releasing "functional and subtly unique"
designs for over a year. A rookie on the Toronto roster, yet expected to
further Toronto's fame.
House of Spy This
is the first season for the Toronto based designer House of Spy, but the
label has invaded the Canadian street wear market like a wild fire. Headed by
a recently graduated fashion design student, House of Spy combines
functionality and fashion resulting in what promises to be a popular rave
clothing label. |
